The Joys of Not Travelling

Yes, the title is correct. You’re reading a travel blog about the joys of not travelling.

I’ve written before about how much I love being home after travelling. I admire those who do travel long-term, as a career, but that’s not the life for me. At least, not at the moment.

Mitch and I moved home for various reasons, one of which was to settle down for a while, save some money, be nearer family and enjoy UK events. We’re attending a fair few weddings and events this summer, as well as planning our own wedding for next year.

When I see travel bloggers or friends exploring new places I think it looks awesome. Scuba diving in Bali? Amazing. Visting the coast of Croatia? I love it! I do sometimes feel envious but there is literally so much cool stuff in the UK to see and do.

The UK is Awesome

Visiting Stonehenge? That’s a big deal all over the world. Spending a weekend in the historic and gorgeous city of Durham? That’s ace. Attending Comic-Con in London with friends? That’s just how I want to spend a weekend!

Finally got to visit Stonehenge!

You don’t have to travel to do new, exciting and cool things. I’d never been to Comic-Con before, until last week, I’d never made a Victoria Sponge cake until a couple of months ago. Travelling has taught me to appreciate the UK more than ever, and do exciting things just as I would in every county I visit.

Mitch and I often travel with our stomachs and adore researching and finding local places to eat. Moving to Croydon, we’ve done the same. Our weekends and evenings are spent checking out the local pubs and restaurants on our doorstep. In 20 minutes, we can be in London, going to watch a theatre show or meeting up with friends. People across the world think that’s so cool. And you know what, I think it’s so cool.

Summer Lovin’

The next few months are super busy with various events but I can’t wait. Stopping travelling isn’t about missing out on all the amazing places across the globe – it’s about checking out all the amazing places near me, seeing friends I haven’t seen in ages, celebrating weddings and experiencing new things. I’m excited for our new chapter in Croydon – it’s already been nearly three months and I’m loving not travelling.

Spending our summer in Croydon – yay
